jennifer is one of the most beautiful women in the world.  in the movies mentioned,  she was absolutely perfect. Just hate that she got so skinny and frail, i miss those wonderful curves.

In 1992 I was selling new Cadillacs at a dealer and was working a deal with an old guy who was only too proud to declare that she was his granddaughter.  But when he started bragging about her body, oh man did that creep me out.  Her GRANDFATHER!!!

Not unless the rest of her was reduced by the same surgeon at the same time....

She just lost weight.  Her face was thinner, her arms looked like twigs, some know it all agent probably told her to get rid of her gorgeous brows, and she just wasn't the same once she started being offered serious parts in Hollywood.

It's what happens when you hit the mainstream.  All of the actresses have to look alike, conform to some idiotic "general" perception of beauty that is someone's conjured up stereotype that probably bears very little resemblance to reality.

I concur with Argyle's view on this: she didn't get a reduction... her 'reduction' is almost certainly due to overall weight loss. I'd also suggest that the natural progression of aging played a partial role: though over 18, she was still young enough to posses some 'baby fat' during her earlier, bustiest roles. That loss of paddding when some plush cuties pass from their teens/early 20s into later adulthood isn't uncommon among the sorts of ladies our forumites favor... similar 'non-surgical reductions' have been witnessed in both Christina and Missy Model, Pattycake, C'lia and numerous other 'teen' models. And of course, there's Jennifer Love Hewitt: as she's gotten older she changed from the iconic skinny young gal with prominent yabos to a more womanly figure who, while still very nicely endowed, is proportionally different than the 'stick with tits' of yesteryear.

Back to the original topic: though it's got nothing to do with the size of her breasts, IMO Jennifer Connelly isn't as epic an actress as media would have me believe. She's competent to be sure, and still quite pretty (despite being too skinny to be really desirable for my tastes) though.

i hate how this seems to be the hollywood norm, taking perfectly fine women, who are in lovely shape, and telling them, oh to get work here you need to loose weight. The result being a lovely actress coming back looking like a skeleton. It is a shame, and i feel proud for the ones that will no longer buy into it. a shame when you see these actresses become frail. I know it's fashionable to blame "Hollywood" or "Hollyweird" for imposing its particular aesthetic on actresses, but really (and yet again): that's not seeing the forest for the trees. Hollywood/magazines/media/etc... don't impose any particular 'ideal' on consumers at all: they provide what consumers want and are willing to pay for. Period.

When mainstream/John Q. Public moviegoers (and television watchers, and magazine buyers, etc...) start reliably shelling out cash for content that features chestier women, or gals with quirky looks, notable eyebrows or whatever... THEN the folks making content (who work for corporations that seek profit from successful media) will more regularly cast those kinds of ladies in their projects.

So, if you don't like the prevalence of skinny, usually-not-busty women in media, blame the consumers of media (i.e.: the public aka 'society') since they ultimately make the casting decisions when they vote with their dollars. To do otherwise is to deny the reality of how our capitalist system works.

Palomine, I agree with that to some extent, but there is no question in my mind that there is a "type" in positions of extreme influence in Hollywood (fashion, film production, critics, etc.), and you can label me as a homophobe if you wish, who simply do not want to see curves on women on the screen.  They are attracted to boyish figures on women and so they presume we all are, or simply don't give a damn that we aren't.

There are enough of us out there thoughout the years who have drooled over the Mansfields, Monroes, Lorens, Connellys, Welchs, et als, that there should have been more of them in prominent roles by now, if it were simply a case of demand, but there just aren't.

From a UK perspective I have two contributions at the moment - sadly neither of which I've been able to find on video, DVD or online:-

1) Playing For Real (1988 Series) - About a Subbuteo tournament. One of the guys was using a lot of 'gamesmanship' so our heroine (Patricia Kerrigan?) gets her own back by wearing a very low cut top while she bends over the table... Nice!

2) The Boy Who Won The Pools (1983 Series) - In one episode (1st?) the main cast visit a record shop. The girl serving is nicknamed 'Camel' or something like that because of the two huge humps on her chest...

They must have been good (At least at the time...) - they've stayed with me for 25 years or so!

There was the whole original "Mike Hammer" TV series (not the "New Mike Hammer" of Keach's post-drug-conviction days in the late 80s).    Another perhaps surprising TV series to find lots of cleavage in was "Hee Haw".  And anyone remember Judy Landers in "Madame's Place"?

In movies, how about "Blame It On Rio" with Michelle Johnson going topless for much of the film (and as a bit of trivia, a pre-brat pack Demi Moore in a supporting role).

Then just having listened to Phil Spector's Christmas album made me think of 1980's B-movie queen Lana Clarkson ("Deathstalker", "Barbarian Queen", both sword-and-scorcery films with -- as was common for the genre -- lots of nudity).  She was shot to death at Spector's home several years ago, and after a long delay and one mistrial he was finally convicted of her murder -- probably the highest-profile **29** murder case since O.J.

At the time it was even a bit too much for me. I was really young and it was the first movie I saw that didn't have any other intention but to show as many boobs as possible. I suppose my breast obsession started before but that movie really made it explode.

It's funny to review it now and notice the boobs I considered huge back then are nothing more than big C cups.

Not that there aren't plenty of gay guys (and girls) working in entertainment... but the vast majority of them are NOT making casting decisions, or greenlighting big budgets or producing prime-time dramas.

Both sides (consumers and producers) feed each other in a vicious circle and they have both long forgotten which side started the whole idea of what an acceptable body image is.  The problem is that the prevalence of media (newspapers to magazines to film, to radio, to television, to computer games and media) has increased exponentially in the past 100 years and modern technology has made it possible to present unreal images very realistically.
