on a partial side note, do you guys think that they will ramp up their persecutions of Muslims/Arabs in the future?  The double standard being discussed in this thread doesn't seem as black and white...but it seems like it eventually will be.

One of the things I've never understood about my countrymen is why they think that immigrants here present some sort of "alien" threat. For example, for a native speaker of Arabic to leave his/her home, and come here, requires great motivation. There is great loss in leaving a place that has been one's home and one's culture.

I grew up in a very mixed area of Seattle (Holly Park, for the knowledgeable). When I was a chi1d I spent a lot of time at friend's houses. Most of my friends were Japanese-American kids who had been born in the internment camps. Their parents or grandparents talked a lot about how hard it was to leave Japan in the 1920s and 1930s, but they had to because the society was becoming more despotic and more militaristic, and they finally had to leave.

So when they came here, other Americans (Let's face it--The white folks) considered them to be responsible for the actions of the country they had to tear themselves away from because they saw what was coming.

BP is under investigation for criminal and civil offense. This will be no doubt be the largest court cases to come. US versus British Petroleum.
However, this case will be mostly about white collar crime, and additional thugs who help carried it out. I wonder if the USA should suspend the war while financing this lawsuits. China does it so efficiently, by just convincing white collar criminals to just off themselves. But our white collar criminal don't have a sense of shame for that kind of thing, it would get in the way of profit.

Terrorism implies intent.
I find it hard to believe a that company would purposely do something so detrimental in the eyes of the public to their industry. This appears to have been an accident, nothing more. Now is not the time for blaming and finger-pointing. All that is doing is distracting from the task at hand. Let them cap the leak, and perform and pay for the cleanup. Prosecution can come later.
If it is later found that this was not an accident, I would first take a long, hard look at those who openly oppose the petroleum industry and their 'obscene profits.'
