A 1963 Chrysler Turbine car. The body was made by Carrozzeria Guia in Turin, Italy and it was shipped back to Detroit where it was mated with a A-831 Chrysler turbine. Years later, Chrysler Defense mated a turbine to an Army Tank and their prototype became the M-1 Abrahms tank first shipped in 1980 and still in production by General Dynamics Land Systems. The car could run on gasoline, kerosene, vegetable oil, diesel, jet fuel, whisky, etc. As long as the liquid can burn, it can use it.

Nice simple clean lines.  I like it.

This is the 70th year of an American Classic, The Chevrolet Corvette. Named after a naval vessel which was fast, maneuverable and a submarine killer. It originally had an in-line six-cylinder engine, it was General Motor's answer to the popular British sports car being imported into the USA at the time and now the latest iteration of the model competes against Ferraris, Lamborghinis and other European exotica.

This is the 1959 Corvette driven by Tim Matheson, who played the character Eric "Otter" Stratton, from the 1978 movie "Animal House", which remains one of the funniest movies ever made that I've seen in my life. This car was lost for a while but then it went on auction after it was found. Matheson was born on December 31, 1947, which makes him 75 years old right now. I remember him when he was, along with Kurt Russel, a Wonderful World of Disney and Disney movies of the 1960's wholesome actor but this movie ensured he would never be seen again as a wholesome actor again.

Today is Memorial Day here in the USA, not a celebration but a day for remembrance. I don't like it when people say "Happy Memorial Day!" because this is a solemn day to remember and honor those who defended freedom and paid the ultimate price to do so. I thought that at least in this thread, we should honor an old Veteran from World War Two, a 1942 Willis-Overland Jeep. Originally designed by the Bantam Motor Company in 1940, the prototype won the competition on that year, but Bantam was too small of a company to mass produce the needed quantity the US Army needed, so the Army told Bantam to provide the Prototype to Willis-Overland and Ford Motor company and Bantam mostly provided towed trailers during the war. This vehicle became the most iconic vehicle of the war and best-known American vehicle worldwide. It is still in production, massively modernized of course, and the average American can buy one at the nearest Jeep dealer.

A car I wish I'd been able to buy in 1980 but my credit rating was too low to get a new car. I had no credit cards, mortgage or any credit history and my income was too low at the time since I was a Petty Officer 2nd Class in the Navy. Of course, I was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and so I had to do without a car since I spent most of my time deployed at sea. GM doesn't produce the vehicle any longer. I wish they would bring it back.

A neighbor down the street here (I live in a 55+ community) has this American icon of the 1950's, a 1957 Ford Thunderbird. It is also a convertible and he inherited it from his father. He is a 80 year old guy and has kept it pristine and the engine is original. It only has 85,000 miles. He belongs to the Las Vegas chapter of the Ford Thunderbird club. I also remember how this car was driven by Sussane  Summers in the American Graffiti movie. Not this particular model, but one like it. Shame Ford turned it into a large sedan later on.

1970 Cadillac Hearse. Back in the day, Cadillac monopolized this market but nowadays, not so much. If you look at the 2023 Cadillac Hearse, it is disappointing.

When it came in excess, few vehicles even approach this 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, which was 1 1/2 inches longer than its main rival, The Lincoln Town Car. I remember the TV commercials of the time and you'd see some men wearing tuxedos and women wearing evening gowns going to a fancy country club for a party and the Cadillac commercial would brag how it was longer, wider and just bigger than the Lincoln. Both cars weighed over 6,000 pounds so they were huge. Gasoline was 22 cents a gallon and they got 7-8 miles per gallon. It was a true American Land Yacht.

My cousin, on my mother's side of the family, Gordon bought this car after he finished his service in the US Army where he served in Germany and married his wife, Ingrid, who claimed to be 18 when the ceremony happened in Houston but later on we found out she was 15 after she had been married to Gordon for 4 years. Needless to say, Gordon's mom and dad were not pleased about how Gordon and Ingrid lied about her age so she could move to the States from Germany. They have been married since.

I don't besmirch him specifically for doing this. Even today, 14 years of age is legal to marry in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
But every couple is different, and I'll take your side if the particulars in this case were not making for this a good decision by Gordon.

In 1964, John DeLorean, an executive at the Pontiac Division of General Motors, put a big, powerful engine into a Pontiac LeMans midsize sedan and created the first Muscle Car of the 1960's and created a uniquely American type of automobile. The GTO ensured that Pontiac would be GM's performance division and was then copied by other automakers, or at least the type of vehicle it was.

And truly ugly and boring, IMO.  The 1968 model was the last good-looking caddy until the CTS came out a couple of decades ago. Cadillacs have certainly improved since then.
