So since I lost my job and was separated from my fiancee, I've been living with my mom. Since spring 2012.

My mom is crippled, and a retiree. She has a really hard time walking, especially up or down stairs with her cane. We live on the third floor of a building with no elevator and she recently got accepted for a subsidized place, but she's gotta take it by the first of June.

I have no savings, no job, and no friends I could stay with. My family lives really far away and they have no space anyway.

I don't know if this is asking for advice as much as it's venting. I don't know what to do. The only person I know who has space/would lives in Florida (very far from the Twin Cities Minnesota) and even then that's a maybe.

I wish I could tell you what to do but I firmly believe life isn`t so much about what happens to you but how you react to what happens.

My reaction is scrabbling to sort out a place to live and eat, especially because I don't have time on my side.

What would it take for your mom to move into this subsidized place? Do you need to fill in any paperwork, do you need to pay for anything, do you need to come up with first month's rent as a deposit, what? And does it mean that if she takes it, you will have nowhere to live, or what?

If your mother needs a care giver, you should look into becoming her care giver and you could help each other out. I'm assuming she does not need 24/7 care so you could use the time that you are not with her to look for employment while having a roof over your head.

Oh yeah I should have been more specific. I can't go with her but it's subsidized based on her social security income, so she'll have more money. I tried looking into the caregiver thing but the state won't go for it. You need to be certified under her case and also in her case there's no ability for her to have a caregiver. It's a very small apartment anyway, very compact like for seniors.

I won't have anywhere to go, unfortunately. The rest of my family/friends either can't spare even a couch or don't have the monetary means to take on someone, even for only a little while.

There's a few shelters around here but the ones I called need me to have an income and I have no income. So I've been looking at shelters and scrambling for even the sorriest of work. I can't **82** or eat, I'm so wracked.

I imagine your mom's new apartment will have a corner of the floor you could curl up in.

Other than that, look thru craigslist for the cheapest room/roommate.

they would probably evict her for me being there. It's a strict program type thing.

Do you have a car? You may be able to park it in front of your mom's new place, and go in daily for cleaning up, eating, etc. Surely they can't be that strict as to disallow even her son as an  (occasional overnight) visitor?

No car, and she doesn't get a parking spot anyway, residents pay extra to park their cars at the building. Ludicrous, I know.

I think I'm kind of ... giving up at this point. I've spent days now looking for ANY options at all outside of shelters or missions, but that seems to be the way of it for me, for now. Beats a bench or the ground. At least I won't get arrested for **83** in public.

Is there a wooded area behind the housing complex where you could camp out in a tent?

I'm not being facetious or trying to diminish your situation at all when I ask this, I'm looking for a solution that might work for you in the interim.

Does your area have a free newspaper like Metro or The Big Picture or AM New York or something? Approach one of the vendors of that paper in the street and ask them if they have any leads for housing, help, etc. -- many of the vendors of such newspapers either were at one point in time homeless, or they are homeless now and are getting assistance from the publishers of those newspapers.
