On Saturday I'm going to an adult event with a steampunk theme. The idea is to look futuristic using Victorian clothes and hardware. Does anyone have any crafty suggestions as to how I can do this on a shoestring. I've been looking at a Russian gas mask or tank driver's goggles. thx.
-
First of all: THANKS! for raising the topic of steampunk. Though I'm not one myself, I like a lot about the movement/aesthetic for a variety of reasons I don't have the time to go into right now. As for your upcoming event, there is/was a site associated with merchandise related to a steampunk comic heroine... I'm trying to remember her name... Cheviot told me about it years ago. Sadly, I can't recall atm (though you'd not be able to order in time for this Saturday anyway)... however, a quick google turns up a lot of online sources for steampunk goggles (including brass ones with green lenses: hooray!) and a multitude of other assorted items.
With so little time between now and Sat, and on a limited budget, all I can suggest is that you check out any local army/navy aka surplus stores: any faux military/welding goggles will probably look close enough for now. Best of luck... enjoy your event!
For inspiration, check out this video from Make Magazine's tv show featuring artist/maker and steampunk icon Jake Van Slatt: http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2009/01/maker_profile_steampunk_on_make_tel.html ...it's great and Jake is ridiculously clever! But don't blame me if after seeing it you have an irresistible urge to start etching brass using a car battery and pool chemicals :D
-
Not really into steampunk myself, (by the way, that pic brings to mind the byline Abraham Clankin') but I think I dig the general thrust. Nowadays we look around and wonder "Couldn't this have turned out any differently?" and once we think seriously about that, then we tend to look back to the initial explosion of the Industrial Revolution, when the big ideas could still come out of a garage or a bicycle shop, and we specifically tend to look back even before heavier-than-air flight, to the Victorian era or, in American terms, Reconstruction. Currently I find myself contemplating a story in which an American space program began in the Thirties with some parallel-Goddard convincing FDR to a) stay ahead of German rocket science and b) launch spy satellites to see what an increasingly worrisome world was REALLY up to. At times you do have to wonder how slight adjustments could have yielded radical results.
I also have to add that I once saw a movie about how a Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City, Nevada generated much of the Sixties hippie culture, and a lot of that was the adoption of an Old West ambience -- which leaves me to worry if that original "Wild Wild West," with its James Bond plots superimposed over 19th Century technology, could be technically steampunk. Certainly they loved that private train ...
Did a spot of Googling, and as possible candidates for Palomine's heroine I will throw out the names Victoria of Kent, Queen of Savages, Ada Lovelace, and Agatha Heterodyne. I hope that may help.
-
Ms Heterodyne seems promising:
-
I think I'm going to go with the gas mask. It's time I picked up some interesting headgear. It's phallic and suggestive enough to go my vinyl boytoy look.
-
Model Anastasia Pierce has a steampunk character and she dressed as it during this past Fetishcon.
-

You MUST have masochistic tendencies to where that outfit! :o
Oh, wait! Maybe that wouldn't be as bad as a rubber outfit (what I thought you posted till I reread it). I would suffer from heat stroke if I wore that for more than a few minutes. Speaking as someone who had to wear JUST the gas mask and protective "overgarment" for a 4 hour period once a year.
..and to DE, thanks for reminding me about Agatha (Girl Genius) Heterodyne! I've just spent the last two days reading all her comics online. Good read! ;D
I've been made well aware of Steam Punk due to a group of fans who perform a Steam Punk Mystery at conventions near me. They're called "Steam Century" and the group all wear outfits representing civilians and military (who fly her royal majesty's dirigible called the "HMA Badger" ..it's a Wisconsin group, can you tell? They perform skits in front of con attendees who must determine who/what/where/how of a murder mystery by gathering clues from "evidence rooms" and the cast who remain in character as they answer questions of the con attendees. Medals are awarded for correctly solving the case.

As a man who has "Girl Genius" by Phil Foglio as one of his favorite webcomics, I heartily approve of this message. ;D ;D ;D

I thought this was a pretty cool tricycle someone created inspired by Victorian times

Very Victorian. ::) ;) ;D

Interesting mish-mash. :)

Indeed, she looks more Bohemian than Victorian.

It does look heavy. They didn’t offer video of it in motion, unfortunately. I did see video of another similarly styled motor-tricycle (will post that next), that was very cool, but not of this peddle variety.

I find her attractive. Now, if she only had big boobs .... ::) ;) ;D

Sarah Hunter.

Really ? ??? :o Her boobs look so much smaller than in her thread in the General Discussion section. ???
-
^All of the pix in her thread were posted by me (so far). I chose not to post pix of her where she doesn’t look, at least, a bit busty. ;)
-
Something a little more in line with the forum’s taste. :)

That corset seems to have a containment failure.

I wonder what my Victorian era Great-great grandmother would have thought of a woman wearing such a scandalous dress. :o ;) ;D

Right? I was thinking about that as I posted it, actually. I wish I could find enough big bust steampunk pix to open a thread in the General Forum!

Snow White hit hard times

Tranquil

Steampunk Wonder Woman. :)

These two look contemporary, more like they’re in Halloween costumes than true Steampunk (whatever that means!). But I still like it.

Nice look

Nice look
Both the girl and the outfit. :)
-
Steampunk Mona Lisa. ;) ;D

I was debating whether to post these here or on Katopunk’s thread. I guess if I’ll probably do both.
Beginning of a series.

Pretty girl. :)

A bust enhancement potion?
Why not?

A bust enhancement potion?
Why not?
You know, that looks like she is going to use Kellogg's Bran Flakes in the mixing bowl. If that really works, I know which product will be flying off the shelves at the supermarket. ;D
-
Pretty gunfighter. ;D
-
Now that Kato has imbibed the Breast Enhancement Potion, she needs to wait the required amount of time for it to take effect.
-
Steampunk Batman. :)

Uh-oh! Something feels strange!

I see hardly anyone is clicking on my posts. Perhaps because the girls have small breasts. Let's see if bigger breasts will get more clicks. Steampunk Bianca Beauchamp. :)

“Such a weird feeling!”
-
Some intriguing art. :)
-
That is pretty cool art, but what's even neater is it ties into Shadowmuse's Kato posts. According to Wikipedia:
Lady Mechanika's look was inspired by steampunk fashion icon Kato.
-
^Interesting
“Oh, my goodness! I think it’s working!”

Well, you can't say she ain't all geared up. ;) ;D

“Oh... my...”

She's a comely lass. :)

It needs mad science to fire it without destroying your arm. ;)

It’s hard to find pix of buxom steampunk girls
I agree. I dunno why it is, but it's a little frustrating.
BTW, do you know if that is Yaya Han?

Yes, that's her. :)

And here is Yaya as steampunk art. :)

Yaya does everything, it seems. Superheros, game characters, anime characters, and now steampunk. She's a versatile lady. :)

And it doesn't hurt that she is an attractive woman as she is. :)

What I found funny about this photo was the ammunition used on the main Gatling gun. If you look closely, it fires Crayola crayons. ;D

Funny. The pickup is a little on the “new” side for steam punk, tho, I think. Guess they couldn’t find anything older.
Below: more Wild Wild West than Steampunk, but I don’t think we mind

Even if it is not a real weapon, you better not aim it at somebody since it could be real and loaded and accidents do happen and you may not want to accidentally ventilate someone. Just saying. :P

More Kato steampunk

She's got to be one of the best looking women modelling steampunk out there. She's definitely found a nice niche for herself. :)
-
Yeah, definitely agree.
Although this one’s not too bad at all. Just wish I had a pic without the mask.

I watched that show with Charade, and while there are a LOT of characters to keep track, I really enjoyed it. I had been worried that it was going to be just a sort of X-Men in Victorian England, but it really is Steampunk and has great production value. A few reviewers don’t care for it much, but I thought it was loads of fun.
Not sure what, if anything, is carrying the show outside of the US. Is HBO carried internationally? Dunno
-
HBO is carried internationally but none of my friends or colleagues have it so I could watch it for free ;)

Having served in the Navy, I wondered what steampunk Navy would look like. This particular class looks like a pre-Dreadnaught battleship. The HMS Dreadnaught of 1906 was the first all big gun battleship and her powerplant used the then revolutionary oil fired boilers to drive a turbine which gave her superior speed to all. Suddenly all of the world's navies were obsolete and a mad dash naval arms race between the British Empire, German Empire, French Empire, Austria-Hungarian Empire, Russian Empire, Ottoman Empire and the USA began which was one of the reasons for World War 1 of 1914-1918.
-
I dunno, Sol. Is that supposed to be an airship?
Here’s a merchant class of airship
-
I dunno, Sol. Is that supposed to be an airship?
Here’s a merchant class of airship
Yes, it's an airship. Remember this which I learned in the Navy, a ship's screw moves water and a propeller moves air for aircraft. Those are propellers, not screws in that airship. A aircraft propeller.
-
Yeah, I think it’s just that the gas bag looks so small next to all the stuff that’s on the airship. It doesn’t really look like a dirigible. It looks like a metal boat that’s somehow in the air. I know: you can do whatever you want in fantasy. The same might even be said of the pic that Cris posted, but at least it looks more like an airship.

Okay, so I began reading that comic at your mention, but when they killed her, I lost all interest. I realize she probably isn’t really dead or they find some way to bring her back, but, yeah... just lost interest.

She hasn't been dead for years. In fact, I'm gonna have to go back and re-read the early stuff to find where the event you mention happens, it's been so long I've forgotten.

With the rope there, I wonder if there'll a hanging. ??? :P

A little more forest and north country feel

Thus one’s a little more goth than steampunk, but close enough.

I had forgotten this, the last book of 007 James Bond creator was, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
I submit to you all that this may well have been the start of the SteamPunk genre.
The car aside from looking damn cool, was also a hovercraft, and a flying car. It does have all the late Victorian vibes to it.
To screw with your brain however, Imagine if you dare, Sean Connery, doing the song.
For those of you not familiar with the car here is the only one I could find with no small humans.

You just brought back some very fond memories from my youth. I loved that movie as a k1d and there were other movies like " Those Intrepid Men in Their Flying Machines " whose songs to this day are deeply imprinted into my mind. Right now I have " Chitty Chitty Bang Bang " song rattling around in my head and Dick Van Dyke singing it. The prior year he had done " Mary Poppins " and he was a huge star then. I also liked The Dick Van Dike show ( Oh, Rob ) on TV in glorious black and white. :)

From Wikipedia.
There were 6 cars built for the film, 1 was a fully road worthy which is now owned as noted by Peter Jackson. This car was privately owned by Pierre Picton of Stratford-upon-Avon from the early 1970s until May 2011.
The 5 others were a smaller road going car, the hover-car, the flying car, a transforming car, and a motorless cassis for trailer work. The smaller driving version is in the Dezer Car Museum in Orlando, Florida. The Hover car was mounted on a speedboat and was destroyed after filming. The others did have engines added to later promote the film. The final road version is privately owned by Anthony Bamford, and is on display at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, UK.
There are 7 replica cars as well.

You're right, that looks steampunk as anything. If someone replicated it today, and took it to a con, no one would raise an eyebrow that it wasn't steampunk.

Anyone watched The Nevers? Awesome show, with many things finally explained in episode 6, but...
Only six episodes in the season? Are you fucking kidding me?
Was happy to see Farscape’s Claudia Black brought in for the backstory, and Laura Donnelly is great (pictured). But, now I have to wait till next year for six more shows? Ugh...

Wow, that's awesome!
But man, can you imagine the recoil problems a broadside like that would have on an airship?
A full broadside from a large sailing vessel is enough to make it heel over, I can't imagine what it would do to a flying vessel!

Frankly that " airship " wouldn't be able to get off the ground. She has a coal burning steam plant for propulsion. Do you know how heavy that type of propulsion system is ? Pound for pound, it has very little power compared to a jet engine or a nuclear power plant. Just as birds have hollow bones in order to save weight and allow them to fly, aircraft have to have relatively low weight to fly. The drawings and art are fun to see but have no basis on real engineering or science. Anyways, a steampunk circus ringmaster. :)

I would say 95% or more of the airship illustrations would not work, on these pages, via conventional means. One has to assume a leap into fantasy with some sort of newly developed lifting gas or materials that are insanely light or steam engines heated by radium. Use your imagination.

I always like the idea of using H.G. Wells "Cavorite" for lifting power. It even dates from close to the right time period.

Dieselpunk is a retrofuturistic sub genre of science fiction that combines the aesthetics of the diesel-based technology of the interwar period through to the 1950s with retro-futuristic technologies & post modern sensibilities.
What better way to start than with a diesel?

Looking at this illustration, the vehicle is based on a early 1950's General Motors diesel locomotive for the Union Pacific called the Super Chief, the machine gun looks like a .30 caliber air cooled from WW2 and the guys headgear is a WW2 US Army Air Corps setup. The propeller is way too small to even help lift something so heavy. :P

I would propose that the vehicle has some other means of lift. The propeller might just be for forward movement, though, even for that it seems small.

At first, I thought this thing was insanely unrealistic, until I realized he has leg braces, and that spiked backplate would swing down to the ground, giving him support directly in the direction of recoil, and keeping him from being all over the place.
So now I think this thing is only unrealistic. But hey, it's dieselpunk! ;)

You are quite right, sir! But, it still fits with the dieselpunk genre because of its design, not its engine power. The 30s and 40s were still the age of steam engines, but one would never consider them steampunk. In any case, it’s an awesome 4-6-2

Frankly, I consider it as a real rolling piece of art. It is from 83 years ago but it still looks futuristic. It is from an era when many industrial machines were so beautiful like a 1936 Stutz Bearcat or a 1935 Duesenberg, which was so much better than any Mercedes, Cadillac or any luxury car of that era and made in Fort Wayne, Indiana. :) If you wonder where that expression " It's a Doosy " came from, Duesenbergs were called Doosys and the expression means it's by far the best. :)

The original boat was the USS Salmon ( SSR-573 ) The SS is for submarine and R is for Radar so she was a radar picket boat which means she would transit ahead of the main fleet and use her radar to detect hostile naval ships, most likely Soviet, and report back. Commissioned in 1956 and decommissioned in 1977. She was not nuclear but diesel electric. Sank off the coast to create an artificial reef. :P

The whole thing, I maintain, behind the "atom punk" / "Googie" / "Space Age Pop" design style of the 50s and ealry 60s was that there was a clear optimism for the future. Whatever problems we would have would be solved, and life would be mostly one of leisure.
Any nostalgia for that era is because we no longer have that optimism, and people yearn for some sort of assurance that things will turn out OK.....

Here's one of the many variants of the Ford Nucleon. In the late 50s, Ford tossed around the idea of a car powered by a small nuclear reactor. They never got past the "let's build a model of what it might look like" stage, because the obvious technical and safety problems could not be overcome.
Still cool to think about. Maybe with a Mr. Fusion in the back.....

This is a NB-36H Peacemaker of the old Strategic Air Command. The Peacemaker was about 30% larger than the B-52 Boeing Stratofortress and it had the capability to fly round trip from the United States to the Soviet Union unrefueled. It had 6 counterrotating propellers piston engines and 4 turbojets engines or as old Air Force hands would say, " six turning and four burning ". Initially designed to be able to fly from the United States to Nazi Germany in World War 2 by Consolidated Aircraft company, which later became Convair and then part of General Dynamics, this particular model flew in August 6, 1956 with an operating experimental nuclear reactor and it remains the only aircraft know to do so. :o

That's weird. There's a small amount different between them, so the artist put in the effort to paint each one, but it defeats me why he would then make them so similar.

As a Sailor, what I see are ships of the same class but perhaps different block class. A good real life example of that is the Virginia class of nuclear submarines. The Block 1 commissioned in the mid 2000's are similar but different to the newest which are the Block 5 which will be commissioned in the mid to late 2020's even though they are derived they are internally different due to advances in technology.

I posted this yesterday but it is gone today. I hope it stays today. The commentary was back in the 1950's they were experimenting with all sorts of new technology and that this was real. Then we edited the whole thing together. Was a lot of fun.

New York's Flat Iron tower Decopunk style. :)
The Flatiron Building, one of my favorite buildings in all of New York.
Fun fact: it's in front of the original location of Madison Square Garden (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madison_Square_and_Madison_Square_Park), before the venue was moved to its current location above and adjoining Penn Station, six or so blocks away. The park that was built on the original site is still known as Madison Square Park.
Allegedly, because of the winds caused by the location of the building and its particular shape, which used to blow up the hoop skirts of women walking by, it gave rise to the slang term "23-skiddoo" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23_skidoo_(phrase)#Flatiron_Building).

Yeah, a similar look to the Flat Iron Building, but since it’s not built anywhere near water, a bridge behind it would make no sense. I think the flat iron building was just used as inspiration. The northern end of the FI building (the pointy end) in NYC sits at the juncture of Broadway, Fifth Avenue & 23rd Street. I used to walk by it everyday on my way to school.
Madison Square Park sits across 23rd St. and the original two Madison Square Gardens we’re located diagonally northeast of the park at Madison & 26th. In 1925, MSG was moved to the West Side at 8th Ave & 49th Street until 1968 after the glorious original palatial steel and glass Penn Station was demolished and the ugly round MSG was installed along with an office block. Today, there are discussions about tearing down MSG (good riddance, in its current form) and moving it to the upper West aside, again, I believe. But, who knows if that’ll ever happen.
Below: the second MSG built in 1890

Based on a 1930's Duesenberg. No, it was not a German car but an all American car made in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The expression, " It's a Duesy" is derived from it. They were the super high tech cars of their era. All hand built and no two were the same since they were built to order. They had aluminum bodies, super charged engines and used the finest woods for much of the interior. Unfortunately, the company did not survive the Great Depression. :(

From @mr_werewolf’s 1920+ World. He writes that he never thought Europe would mimic war again like his artwork. He’s Polish with a Russian wife with many friends living in Ukraine and they are just besides themselves with sadness over Mr. Putler’s invasion.
Anyone know the significance of the Z’s on the mechs? I’ve seen them on Russian tanks along with other symbols. I assume they are a way for units to recognize each other as the A’s (with no crossbar) did in the Iraq war.

This is actually NOT atom punk, at all. This is a Bob McCall painting featured in the book “Our World in Space”—written by Isaac Asimov. It was published in the mid ‘70s and was a look into what the future of our space program might look like. That painting is a best-guess imagining of a Mars Colony, actually. The “M1” on the observation lander stands for Mars One. Also, please note the clouds in the background. There are no clouds on the Moon.
It’s a fascinating look at what they thought the future might look like from the point of view of the immediate post-Apollo era, so it’s very optimistic and unfortunately quite wrong.
-
A triple decker craft. :)
Another Robert McCall painting. I don’t recognize this one, but it’s easily recognizable as his style and his signature is on it. This is more speculative art from the 70s, probably. Def not atom punk, so m afraid.

If I recollect correctly, the hood bulge in the middle front is a headlight that moved to where you steered the vehicle, so if you steered to the right, it would shine the light to the right.

I think you may be mixing up a Tucker with this concept vehicle. If you zoom in on the Buick you will see that that bulge has a concave grille at the front. Turning on the headlights pulls back that grille, exposing the twin headlights. Must look like a motorcycle approaching you at night.

Ok, I do remember the Tucker Torpedo had a central directional headlight but I thought that so did that Buick. I was right that the Buick had headlight, but I was wrong about its ability to shine on the direction of the steering.

I am merging the 'punk' threads. Given that they are all extremely similar. It really does seem redundant to have 5 separate threads, especially when certain people seem to be posting in the for the sake of it

I cannot speak for others—but I only posted in them when I found something cool. Wow, with one fell swoop you’ve gone and sucked all the fun out of it. If I want to go back now and check something out that’s relevant to a specific genre you’ve made that a lot more difficult. It’s not my forum, though, you can do what you want. But, it’s too much of a pain to look back through it now, so I won’t bother posting in this now monster thread of unrelated material.

salem,
Extremely similar? LOL... Steampunk has about as much to do with Cyberpunk as Queen Victoria has to do with Princess Lea. I mean, I don't really care, but Cris mentioned it to me and I figured I'd stop by and take a look and put in my two cents. Not sure if anyone really appreciated those threads to see what was posted, anyway. I mean, solvegas made like 80% to 90% of the posts and Cris made up most of the rest. But, my question is: why was it such a big deal? Why do you and rptoe give a tinker's cuss about those threads so much that you felt the need to "tidy them up"? Just the need to ruin someone else's harmless fun? LOL
Okay, just my thoughts on the whole thing. Like I said, I doubt anyone besides Cris or George really cared, anyway.

Quote from wikipedia
Since the advent of the cyberpunk genre, a number of derivatives of cyberpunk have become recognized in their own right as distinct subgenres in speculative fiction, especially in science fiction.[1] Rather than necessarily sharing the digitally and mechanically focused setting of cyberpunk, these derivatives can display other futuristic, or even retrofuturistic, qualities that are drawn from or analogous to cyberpunk: a world built on one particular technology that is extrapolated to a highly sophisticated level (this may even be a fantastical or anachronistic technology, akin to retrofuturism), a gritty transreal urban style, or a particular approach to social themes.
Steampunk, one of the most well-known of these subgenres, has been defined as a "kind of technological fantasy;"[1] others in this category sometimes also incorporate aspects of science fantasy and historical fantasy.[2] Scholars have written of the stylistic place of these subgenres in postmodern literature, as well as their ambiguous interaction with the historical perspective of postcolonialism.
I should have said 'subgenres of Cyberpunk' rather than 'extremely similar'. I stand by what I said though, I would often come into the off-topic board and see EVERY subgenre posted in just for the sake if it. If you want to blame someone, blame the people who have no posting restraint. It was getting beyond a joke.

You say “people”. It was one individual, and yes, it was annoying. Like I said, it’s not my forum, do what you want. I have to tell you though, it’s very disheartening and frustrating, especially when I wasn’t the one posting a pic to all the threads just because (although, I have to say, as annoying as that was, I don’t see why it really mattered if he did that: what harm did it really cause?).
I think I need to take break from the forum. I come here for fun and suddenly that factor seems to be missing.
-
I don't know who started it. "Cyberpunk" was the first; then "steampunk" got in on the act. OK, those two are legit. But now it seems that every design aesthetic or art style - no matter how limited in time and space - gets its own separate "-punk" designation. And frankly, it's gotten silly. "Yep, there is one of these for basically every decade of the 20th century," says "Isaac" at Sorcerer of Tea (https://sorcereroftea.com/punkpunk-a-to-z-of-punk-genres/) (who lists FIFTEEN major "-punk" genres - with examples)
Oceanpunk! Cattlepunk! Pharaohpunk!
OK, I made that last one up. But for a second, weren't you picturing an Ancient Egyptian milieu with powered chariots and flying reed boats? And I'll bet someone's tried it.
It's all basically "Retro-Tech Fantasy", and frankly, much of it doesn't deserve a separate designation.
-
This is a damn shame.
First of all, since when is Cyberpunk retro?
It looks to me like the Steampunk thread was started way back in 2009 by evilkirk to talk about a costume he put together. I went thru pages and pages until there was a cyberpunk post. I don't know how it works, but I'm guessing when threads are merged, they are merged chronologically as to when the replies were posted. Having cyberpunk mixed in with Steampunk frankly seems stupid, but maybe that's just me.
I mean, I don't really care, myself, but the boys were having such fun with these and you've all just gone and shoved them together like a weird leftover casserole. I mean, I do agree that Steampunk, Decopunk and Dieselpunk are pretty freakin' similar. But Atomicpunk and Cyberpunk are totally different animals. Whatever. Define them the way you want. I just get the sneaking suspicion that you all just got annoyed when Solvegas just posted stuff in them everyday just because. But, you know what, he was having fun, so what's the big deal, really? Who did it hurt? Shoving all those punks into one thread just seems mean-spirited.
-
This merging did not need to happen, Salem. I'm sorry, but that's the way I feel. I didn't even participate in them, but I can certainly see how those who were would take umbrage.
-
I should probably address this now that a month has passed.
I didn't take the decision lightly, and I know that a few people are upset about it, even though all the posts are still there, all under one roof. It really did not make sense to have so many threads on what are essentially sub-genres of the same thing. If they weren't, they would not all have 'punk' in the name. I can assure you I wasn't doing it to be mean.
I did actually ask advice from Palomine about it, we e-mail occasionally about forum stuff and he agreed with me.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and in hindsight I could have left it alone, however there was one poster in particular who seemed to post in these threads for the sake of it, and it was getting silly.
I like George, and do enjoy his posts. He is a valued contributor to the BEA. However, he has caused me a few problems over the years with his lackadaisical attitude to posting, so much so that he has been banned a few times. When discussing it with Palomine, he did mention that the BEA has had problems with George in the past too. George has a tendency to go looking for things to post in threads, and a lot of the time he is none too careful in what he posts, which is the opposite to what most of us do in that we post stuff in threads that we come across online. This has led to countless posts having to be removed over the last few years because he has posted pictures from Daktari, Score Pictures with no logos etc. I am currently the only moderator here, and I frankly don't have the time to run around constantly checking every post. People rarely report posts anymore unless someone says something politically that they don't like.
If anyone wants to go through this thread and make a note of all the posts from a particular sub-genre of 'punk', I could separate it from the main thread. When I have the time.
-
I only have two questions:
How is Palomine doing? Glad to hear that he's still in the land of the living.
Who the heck is George? :D
-

And glad to hear Palomine is alive. What a legend he was here.

I resent what happened to these threads. Yes, I was the one mostly posting on them BUT I was not lackadaisical about it. If anybody bothers to look at the forum statistics, you will notice that I have spent a lot of time on the forum and that is because it takes me a lot of time to find the material. I don't belong to a lot of paysites and I do make mistakes and I've paid the price. :(

I gotta share this prompt, it's amazing:
A surreal digital artwork featuring two intertwined abstract female figures, each embodying steampunk elements. One figure is intricately detailed with complex mechanical gears, cogs, and clockwork, while the other blends organic forms with industrial design, seamlessly integrating pipes, rivets, and brass. Their unique features, including gears and clocks embedded into their skin, create a harmonious fusion of human and machine. The background is a richly textured dark stone, cracked and weathered, enhancing the mysterious and otherworldly atmosphere. The scene is captured with hyperrealistic detail in 8k resolution

Just a general rant:
My YouTube "recommendations" get filled with those AI videos of lovely and busty women. It's not necessarily a problem - except that the breakdown is something like this:
50% Steampunk
30% "Retro Futuristic"
18% "Near future" sci-fi (spacesuited babes in spacecraft or space stations)
2% Other
Where's the Tolkein-esque fantasy? The "sword & sorcery"? Come on, you 'creators', give me something different!
