On a slight tangent - people in the north and going to laugh at me but:

Sunrise: 4:29 AM
Sunset: 21:48

Day length: 17 hours 19 minutes.

Should be 20C today - shorts on today then!

Right now at 5:09 AM or 0509, it is a bone chilling 75F or 24C.  :o ;) ;D Yesterday we had ....RAIN !  :o The high only went to 98F and the humidity right now is an oppressive 39%  :o which for us is horribly high. A few days ago we were routinely over 110F but today we might only go to 95F. Like the old saying goes, if you don't like the weather, just wait, it will change.  :)

Now back in 1986, I was stationed in San Diego where the weather is so dependably nice that it can get boring and then our ship, the USS McKee, AS-41, got TDY ( Temporary Duty )  orders to the Naval Air Station Adak, Alaska, in the Aleutian Islands for a training exercise to prove that if necessary a repair and supply ship could be quickly redeployed to augment a far away facility. Back in the good ol' Cold War days, Adak was a two hour flight on a P-3C Orion from the main Soviet submarine base of the Pacific Ocean in Petropavlovsk, Russia in the Kola peninsula. Anyways, we got there in July 2 and it was gray and gloomy and cold. On the 4th of July, it  ... snowed !  :o WTF !  :o ??? :( I always thought that joke about snow in the 4th of July was just that but sure as shit, the white stuff was falling. Oh, the sunrise was at 0215 and the sunset was 0010 hours. It never got above 45F during the month of July we were there. It sucked. Adak had a small US Marines contingent and it had the highest suicide rate in the Military in those days. It was considered hardship duty so you got a little extra on your pay packet. The base was closed in the 1990's when the Soviet Union went out of business but it is being considered for re-opening because the Russians and Chinese are getting to be assholes again.  :( So as my mom used to say, somebody somewhere has it worse than you so count your blessings.  :)

Goodness gravy!

So true.

sunrise was at 0215 and the sunset was 0010 hours.
I'd quite like to experience that - I may plan a trip to Iceland.  Apparently, in Northern Scotland it never gets fully dark in summer.

Weather here is is 9C and heavy rain.  Humidity 96%, so oddly it feels warm.

Geography is so important. London is further North than Toronto and closer to the North Pole than Toronto or Montreal in Canada BUT its Winters are nowhere as severe. Why ? Due to the Gulfstream. The warm water travels from Florida and heads East and up the Atlantic and washes onto Northern France and the British Isles which is why Paris and London have warmer Winters than Toronto or Montreal respectively. Toronto and Montreal instead get the Artic blasts directly with no warming waters such as the Gulfstream to help out. Anyways, it is 77F or 25C right now and we should hit 101F or 39C which for us here in Sin City it's a mild Summer day.  :)

It's 26C here now, but they're forecasting the next 3-4 days to be over 30, with Wednesday forecast to hit 36.  It might be mild where sol is, but if it gets up to that here it's blisteringly hot.   :o
Also, if the forecast holds, this will be the longest string of +30 days here I can remember in years.

Due to the Gulfstream.
Indeed - and if The Gulf stream ever moves south we're (UK) going to freeze!

I was listening to a weather podcast last night, and they were saying Finland has had its hottest day - I think they said 31C.  Even Siberia is over 30C.  Jeez, I'm sitting here in a 13C heatwave.

Anyways, it is 77F or 25C
Nice

should hit 101F or 39C
I'd die in that.

Right now at 0355 hours, Pacific time zone, it is 82F or 28C with clear skies. It will be 107F or 41C for the high. This temperature is taken at the airport, McCarran International, but McCarran is one of the cooler sections of the Las Vegas valley. It is usually hotter in Henderson, just Southeast of Las Vegas or in North Las Vegas, a separate city just North of Las Vegas proper. The valley is actually quite large actually. Anyways, it will be pretty hot today.  :P

Its 106 in Portland and predicted to be 112 for the next 2 days. I think its the hottest I have ever felt. 108 was my old record. So early to be this hot! What are they saying what July and August is going to be like?

Thank god for AC, eh?   :)

Without AC most of the American South and Southwest would be uninhabitable. This part of the country did not rise up until the advent of mass AC after World War 2. In 1950 , the Las Vegas valley had a total of 50,000 people and most of the people in Nevada lived in northern Nevada in the Reno, Carson City and Lake Tahoe area.  But AC allowed Las Vegas to overtake Reno as the biggest city by 1960 and now most of the people in Nevada live in the Las Vegas valley. When I lived in Houston, Texas while going to High School there, one day in 1972 it got up to 121F or 49C with 98% humidity and it was a sunny day. It was freakish and absolutely miserable and AC units were breaking down everywhere since the heat and humidity were so brutally high. I don't miss that. By the way, Houston used to be malarial up until the 1920's when they used plenty of the wonder chemical DDT to kill mosquitos since it worked so well when they built and opened the Panama Canal in 1914 just a few years earlier. I'm just glad I don't live in your part of the world where the winters are so brutal there. Just my preference, I'd rather be too hot than too cold.  ;) ;D

That is quite a tough choice though.  I do find it easier to ger warm when it is cold than cool when it is hot.

What is the ideal temp for Sol?

18C - 65F for me.
