Seeking Polypropylene String Implants
« on: December 02, 2003, 12:01:59 AM »
Greets all,

I'm a newbie to this forum, but not a newbie to breast implants.  Not exactly.  I've immersed myself in any info I can get on this subject for about 6-7 years now.

I have a very special woman in my life by the name of ruby who is keen for breast implants.  But not just any implants.  First of all, she wants to go big.  HUGE.  When she and I were toying with numbers, we guesstimated that she should shoot for the 3000-4000cc ballpark, long-term.  But then we got to thinking about the various options.  I know that polypropylene string implants were briefly popular, thanks to Dr Gerald Johnson.  Why he stopped doing them isn't entirely clear.  Nothing I've found online states that what he did was illegal, so we're guessing that it became an issue of professional jealousy, or professional peer pressure, or possibly pressure from the implant manufacturers.  Who knows.  *shrug*

Anyway, we're on a quest, a mission from God!  [cue Blues Brothers music]  Of the info that's out there that is still available (and after sifting through the FUD), and after having had a chat online with someone who has a friend who got strings a year ago (and is very happy with them), we're convinced that this is the way to go.  Since Dr Johnson isn't doing them anymore, I can only conclude that someone else *is*.

A little background:  ruby is currently a 38dd.  She's not a stripper or adult entertainer of any sort.  She's not looking to have the biggest tits in the world.  In fact, once she reaches a point where she feels she's approaching her desired goal (and I know it can take months/years for them to settle down), she'll stop looking to grow them any further.  If they get to be a bit unmanageable, then we'll look into importing the oversized implants from Europe and swapping out the strings.

We're just freaks for huge tits, and would like to make them part of our daily lifestyle.  Since the very gradual expansion effect of string implants is something ruby prefers to the sudden trauma of stretching skin over large implants, ruby is *really* in favour of the strings.  (Yes, we're well aware of the post-op expandables, but like any implant in North America, there's a limit to how big you can go, without importing from Europe.)

Can anyone direct us to some more salient info in this regard, preferably in the general direction of board certified plastic surgeons who might possibly be available to do this procedure?

Thanks in advance.  If you'd prefer, you can reach me off-list at [email protected] .

Jim and ruby

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but after the initial experimental patient evaluation study on string implants was completed (involving something like 100 patients and completed something like 18 months ago), the USFDA has issued an edict that string implants are not to be used on additional patients unless and until they undergo a full FDA device approval study and submittal.  As this will cost well over $100,000 to fund the approval study, and as no commercial implant company has been willing to make such an investment to date, string implants are a totally "dead issue" at least as far as US doctors are concerned.

There have been a couple of rumors that a doctor in Thailand was going to begin doing string implants, however there is no confirmation or further info available.

Thanks for your feedback Melonie.  (Didn't you used to frequent the forum over at implantinfo.com about 4-5 years ago?  You were a goldmine of info then, too!)

I can't help but wonder a couple things:

1) If strings were suspended (no pun intended) 18 months ago, how a good friend of an online acquaintance allegedly got strings 12 months ago, and

2) Being that I'm Canadian (albeit working on a visa in the USA), I can't help but speculate that Canada probably doesn't fall under the jurisdiction of the FDA, and what the ruling (or lack thereof) by the appropriate governing body in Canada might be.

Thoughts?

Having posed the above, what would you think would be an appropriate path in order for ruby getting to where she'd like to be?  For example, what's the largest post-op expandables available in the USA today?  Would we be better off ordering post-op expandables from Europe?  Since she's a saggy 38dd today (and having a sturdy frame on her (she used to play rugby)), what's the largest initial expandable that she might be able to get away with?  (I'm also curious what the minimum, rated, and maximum fills for that would be.)  I've already tried Eurosilicone.com, and that site really doesn't present any data on unusually large implants for review.

And a little food for thought:  Is it possible that the US implant manufacturers are contributing to the lack of approval, à la "Oh FDA, you might want to really give the string implants a particularly thorough scrutiny, wink wink nudge nudge"?  After all, they're not the ones to benefit by the strings getting approval, are they?  If anything, they could lose market share (translation: lost revenue).

Well I'm new to these forums (as a non-lurker) too. But to buisness Mel gave you 1 dose of cold water here's the second.
1) If you blieve this guy, i got some land in florida to sell you (only a foot below sea level)

2) I'm canadian too living in New scotland here in the north and your right the US fda has no juice in canada we have our own version (can't remember the name), here's the but while a US ban on the inflating string implants doesn't automatically veto canadian usage of them it does mean that you would have to convince a canadian plastic surgeon to start a trial program to test them. Altough the fact that Dr. Johnson already did a prelim trial that would be a tough sell.
The sad truth is in north america to find implants whose base line fill is over 800cc's is like finding a living dodo.
You are thinking about this wrong. To get the non-string implants your after you'll have to go to europe, there is a french implant maker that will make custom implants over 800cc's. Vixen Lamoore used this company head over to the bigger boobs coming (that's her thread) to find out the name. Also I've heard that some thai doctors may be using string implants in thailand (duh)
were going to see an inverse relationship between the number of stab wounds I inflict and how many answers you give me.

Actually, it was a woman, not a guy.  And it was in Nicole's chat forum.  (If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry about it.)  I have the mutual friend's e-mail address, and about 10 mins ago I sent her another request for details (hoping to get her friend to reply).

Heh.  It's extremely uncommon to hear Nova Scotia referred to as New Scotland, although I'm sure it's correct.  Wouldn't hear too many Ontarians calling it that.

Didn't Vixen say that hers were 1000cc overfilled to 1400cc?

Yes, I think I already referred to Eurosilicone in my previous post.  The info is definitely not on their site, unless it's well-hidden.

As for the Thai doctor... I can only think that he did these girls:  www.farangdingdong.com  It's the only explanation for the ongoing incremental growth that the site owner claims is happening to the various girls there.  Granted, it would probably take them some time to get to that size, but if they started out with substantial expanders, and got bumped up 100cc/month, then had them swapped out and lots of string packed in, that could explain quite a bit.  Sadly, from what I've read elsewhere on this board, I'll wager that if they are string implants, those girls won't go 3 years before their tits basically burst open.

Hi Jim,

I don't like to bother you too much, but the farangdingdong girls are not the real thing. The clothes are stuffed with whatever is usefull to do it. And the pictures where their breasts are exposed are good morphes. These girls are falsies like Zena & Cindy Fulsom, Mandy Mountjoy, Vicky Little and Maria Biggs.

When it comes to biggest size of implants the only "ap"-proved ones are our well known big bust stars like CC, Maxi Mounds, Keisha, Melonie and some others.

There was an amusing post at Joggs UG the other day where someone had found the Chelsea Charms donor pic for an FDD morph...    I very much suspect that the rumour of a Thai doctor doing string implants comes from a porn site I saw half a year ago that posted FDD pics with a made up back story about implants (another made up back story).

Hhhmmm... okay, I'll buy that for a dollar.  But what about the animated GIFs, supposedly taken from the movies which can be downloaded (once membership is purchased, which I haven't done)?

"takes out pin to burst bubble" if american and british porn movie makers with a few grand can put those huge falseies on zena and cindy fulsom et al. then some guy in thailand with a few bucks could make some custom bras that move like the real titty, to make the fantasy of huge titied asians a semi reality.

Putting aside the issue of foam falsies and the NON-big bust models who strap them on, pose for pictures, take them off and resume their normal lives (which pisses off most big bust girls who have to carry around their implants every minute of every day, and which doubly pisses off most big bust girls when guys can't tell the difference) ...

True the USFDA has no authority in Canada.  However, Canadian medicine has even more government involvement than the US. making the odds of finding a "rogue" plastic surgeon rather small (but not impossible I suppose - good luck).

The two American implant companies, Inamed and Mentor, dominate the Canadian breast implant market as well as the US market.  Putting all tact aside, you can imagine the type of behind the scenes pressure on the US and Canadian medical establishment emanating from these companies when faced with an alternative implant made from $10 worth of suture string which would directly compete with their liquid filled bags which they have been able to sell for over $1000 a pair!

In regard to P.I.P and EuroSilicone, I believe that both companies already have custom made molds for 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000cc implants.  These can be used to produce silicone, saline or adjustable implants in any of those sizes.  P.I.P also will make double lumin implants where the sealed inner bag is filled with silicone and the adjustable outer bag can be filled with saline.

In regard to "first time" implants, even adjustable ones, there is a finite limit to the amount the breast skin be stretched at one time.  Given a DD cup's worth of natural tissue, I would guess that this limit falls in the 600-800cc range depending on skin elasticity.

There is also a limit in regard to the minimum fill to maximum fill ratio of adjustable implants, which is typically less than 2:1.  Too little fill and you risk premature implant failure due to the presence of folds in the implant bag, which rub on each other like a piece of paper folded over and over again in the same place.

Combining the skin stretch limit and the adjustable implant minimum fill limit, it is doubtful that even with natural DD cups that you could use adjustable implants any larger than a 1500cc rating, with a 750cc initial fill, for a first surgery.  This seems kind of a waste, since custom implants will cost the same amount and involve the same degree of difficulty importing them into North America regardless of their size.

For a first surgery, I would recommend going with inexpensive US made 800cc rated adjustable implants like for example Inamed/McGhan 133FV's.  These could be put in filled to 600cc or 800cc or whatever the skin stretch limit will allow.  Then over the next few months, these can be overfilled to 1200cc plus.

THEN after the skin has had a chance to acclimate to a 1200cc plus size, you can think about going with 2000cc rated custom adjustable implants the next time around.  These could be put in filled to 1600cc or 1800cc or whatever the skin stretch would allow, and then gradually be overfilled to the 2500cc ballpark.  This is the approach that many of the big bust models have used.

If your maximum size objective is in the 2000cc range, instead of going with custom made adjustables the second time you can follow Vixen's approach and go with 2000cc permanently sealed implants either saline or silicone.  However, this would require that the first set of adjustable implants be overfilled as far as his humanly possible, like to 1400 or 1500cc, to pre-stretch the breast skin.  This is possible, but results in a very firm torpedo like appearance once the fill gets past 1200cc or so.  Considering that this is a temporary measure lasting for a few months at most, soon to be replaced by soft and squishy 2000cc permanent implants, it's not a big deal.

With a two step approach you'll have some significant size to show for all of the expense and trouble of getting custom implants made!

Here's an ancient picture with my own McGhan adjustable implants filled to about 1200cc.  God, It's been so long since my boobs were actually smaller than my head !

Hi Melonie, and thanks for your reply.

A lot of what you say is definitely ringing some very familiar notes.  But you do give numeric and vendor specifics, which was what I was looking for.  It's possible that ruby will want to stop at 2000cc, but in the event that she's quite keen to go bigger, then we'll keep on going.  As far as material (the final implant), ruby and I are leaning towards the cohesive gel implants.  The notion of an implant which won't 'deflate' if the shell should for any reason rupture, is a good thingy.  And I've read that they still feel very realistic.  Er... do you have any comments on the 'realism' of the cohesive gels?

And I'm glad you brought up the point of the behind-the-scenes pressure.  I've held this view for a little while now.  This is possibly an extra factor as to why Dr Johnson stopped doing the procedure (ie, the implant manufacturers realized it would cut into their profits), they had a little chat with his peers, and suddenly he's called before the carpet for yet another bit of innovation (noting that he lists various patents on his website).

Now for another spin:  What if the company which sells the PP string material were to try and design something less random, more of a unit, but still using string mesh?  Or.. something.  :P  I recently read ninjrk's thoughts on designing something....  Anyway, to cover the $100,000 FDA study, I guess the company would have to kick something in, or  maybe I'll win the Powerball and cover the cost myself.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

The problem here is that the suture market is even worse than the implant market.  You've got a couple of huge companies such as Ethicon that dominate the market.  They won't tool up for anything that won't pull back a few hundred thousand, cripes, their vascular 8-0 Prolene goes for around $500 for 12 1 foot strands (with an attached needle, of course).

Were I to do it, I'd approach one of the small vascular access port companies, Access or DelTec.  They do a lot of work with Polyproylene mesh and do plenty of prototypes.  Of course, they won't violate FDA guidelines so you'd need to make up a reason for the bag o' suture.  That said, I doubt if there's a 1 in 100 chance that you could fool them.

There are knock-off companies doing this stuff in the PRC, they'd probably do most anything for the hard US $$$.  Of course, they don't have much oversight, so you won't be that sure of what you're surgically implanting.

Thanks for your input.  I've enjoyed seeing your posts, from where I've managed to find them.

I did finally get the mystery woman's e-mail address.  Turns out she got her strings 2-1/2 years ago, and her surgeon was visiting from France at the time (learning local techniques).  Long story short, she put down her money, he did her strings, they worked out an arrangement with a local surgeon to take care of her, and she was to keep in touch with him via e-mail after his return to France.  She hasn't heard from him in quite a while.  She adds that she "couldn't be happier" with her string implants.

If I can track him down to France, who knows... maybe ruby and I will end up travelling to France to get the strings done.  *shrug*

Thanks again.

question for Melonie

Hi Melonie,

I never thought to ask this before, but do you know offhand how much string you currently have?  (I don't know whether to ask how many linear feet you have in each breast, or if you know offhand the approximate displacement of the strings themselves, before accounting for things such as serous fluid.)

Thanks in advance.

Jim{ruby}
