Sans any lengthy study, which anyone involved with baseball stats might automatically expect, I'd agree with you.  There's something to be said about holding a grudge.

Phils got shut out today -- not badly played, but just well-pitched by the Nats, who always seem to morph into the '27 Yankees so far this year against the Phils.  Myers actually pitched a decent, though not great game, and lost.  Though since we were shut out, he was hung out to dry no matter what.  Given how he did and the pressure he was under, it's a positive.

Also tonight Jon Lester pitched a no hitter for the BoSox over the Royals.  He overcame non-Hodgkins lymphoma in order to continue his career and then to do this, he deserves all the props in the world.

The Yankees continue to spiral downwards. They lose two to the Mets, despite having Chien-Ming Wang starting on Sunday. Tonight, the Orioles knock Mike Mussina out of the box in the first inning, racking up seven runs. Credit Derek Jeter with that; six of those were unearned thanks to his error.

rtpoe, I think there is a mystical link between the Yankees and the Mariners. They both work really hard to earn that spot at the bottom of their respective divisions.

That should piss off all Yankee fans!

Well, the Skankees pay at least 5x more to earn that honor.

Right now given I'm a Phillies fan, I'm enjoying taunting my Mets fan friends more, given their implosion and how strongly it's playing in their market.  They lost again tonight, as Billy "the Mouth" Wagner gave up a homer in the 9th and then after legging out a double in the 10th Jose "overrated" Reyes went 'wha? huh?' and got picked off 2nd. Then they were left with entrusting their extra inning life to Aaron Heilman, and got what anyone would expect.  So nothing changes in the NL East.

After dropping 15 on the Astros on Sunday the Phils stopped and said, "Nah.  We're just getting started" and laid 20 on the Rockies on Monday.

Where to begin?  Starting pitcher/fossil Jamie Moyer finally beat the Rockies, enabling him to record a victory against all 30 major league teams.  Chase Utley has also recorded 2 homers and 9 rbis in the last two games.  The Phils scored 20, but only hit 2 homers today, so it was truly the Death of 1000 Cuts.  They batted around 3 times.  It was also the 10th time in franchise history they scored 20 or more.  And the most runs the Rockies have ever given up on the road -- previously they'd given up 17 twice.

Braves and Fish won, Mets lost.  So no real change.  But still a fun day.

Yeah, but when push comes to shove --That is, when the Mariners play the Skanks-- the Mariners manage to claim the coveted "swept" spot. Shit, five errors in a game?  They're on their way to a record.

Phils finished 5-0 against the Rockies yesterday -- best they can do now.....

Today vs. the Fish...bring it on.

So, Phils win the first game 12-3.  3 homers, Chase Utley hits his 4th homer and drives in his 14th and 15th runs in his last 5 games.  Ryan Howard and Chris Coste also hit 3 run dingers.
Phils have scored 60 runs in the last 5 games.  And have ridden a 5 game winning streak to the top of the NL East.

Gotta say, if I'm a pitcher and I see I'm starting tomorrow's game against the Phils, I'm worrying a bit.

The Mets, winners of 4 of their last 5, are starting to look like the team they are supposed to be.

The Cubs have the best record in baseball! Go Cubbies!

Ken Griffey Jr. is just a hair away from 600 career home runs. Too bad Bonds (and Sosa, too) have soiled the whole home run thing.

The Fox network's Game of the Week here was Dodgers at Mets. And thus we have more proof that ratings are more important than showing good teams. I'd love to see a Rays game. Someday.

I do love the Mariners. See, they have a few really good talent spotters, which is why Jamie Moyer, Randy Johnson, Griffey, Jr., all played here. Oh, Martinez, too. But the team got the chance to trade each of them for a satchel of money and a used Volvo.

Here's some more ammunition for Cubs' believers:  They entered the month of June with the best record in baseball since - yep, you guessed it - 1908.

And today they successfully swept away the Rockies to finish their homestand with a perfect 7 - 0 record.  Now it's on to San Diego and there's no reason not to believe the winning streak will continue.

Don't the Cubs have a sweep -- I mean series coming up with the Mariners?

We want all the teams to feel good about Seattle, so just come in whenever you need a sweep on the road.
