My wife and daughter have somewhat different tastes; they like meat/fish done a lot more than I do. So tonight we had salmon, and daughter had chicken; brown rice; and green peas. I baked the three meat servings, took mine out, and broiled theirs for five minutes. On rare occasions I go fishing and get lucky, landing a chinook. This was the last of my chinook from last winter. Gotta go kill me another fish soon.
Someday, chi1dren, this entire fuck-up will be yours.

When you show up at Palomine's house, unannounced/unexpected, and it's anywhere between 4pm and 2am and you mention that you're hungry, this is what he comes up with:

Mango curried ground chicken sauteed with sweet onions over a lightly dressed mixed green salad

LOL! :D

I wasn't always single gOOb! ;) Though I am atm (other friends have asked the same Q after having dinner here). Fantastic looking brussel sprouts there btw! :)

Added later to note that gOOber is not the first male friend to ask that exact question after witnessing my gussied-up bachelor grub. ;)

Food ingredients legal in the USA that are banned in other countries.

1. Artificial food dye: What’s that? Boxed macaroni cheese powder isn’t naturally orange? Gasp. You thought your berry sports drink came out that perfect shade of red all on its own? Ha.

There are a range of artificial dyes banned in Norway, Finland, Austria, France and the U.K. that we ingest here. They’re blacklisted in those countries in part because they’re made from chemicals derived from petroleum. They’ve been linked to things like brain cancer, nerve-cell deterioration, and hyperactivity, among others.

2. Olestra (or Olean): This ingredient is used to lower calorie counts in fat-free potato chips, corn chips and French fries. It has a slippery reputation, to say the least, and has been linked to anal leakage. It also depletes the body’s ability to absorb vitamins, say some experts.

It’s on the no-eat list in the U.K. and Canada, but you can find it here if you’re willing to risk symptoms like crampy bowels.

3. Brominated vegetable oil: You might recall campaign against this substance that makes food dyes stick to liquid. Gatorade recently announced it would ditch the stuff, but it’s still in plenty of other soft drinks and sports beverages.

Opponents of BVO point out that it’s a chemical used as a flame retardant, and has been linked to issues like major organ system damage, birth defects, growth problems, schizophrenia, and hearing loss. It’s banned in over 100 countries.

4. Azodicarbonamide: Even if you can’t pronounce it, you should know that it leaches flour and also plastic products. It’s in breads, frozen dinners, boxed pasta mixes and packaged baked goods. It’s banned in Australia, the U.K. and a plethora of other European countries over concerns that it could induce asthma.

5. Synthetic growth hormones rBGH and rBST: Mmm, hormones! So tasty. These can be found in plenty of milk and dairy products, and have been linked to humans breast, colon, and prostate cancer in humans. It’s also not so great for cows, say those against using the hormones while raising cattle.

Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, and the EU all ban the use of growth hormones.

It just goes to show that while all of the above products (and more) are totally legal here, if you’re concerned about what it is you’re actually eating after reading that long list of ingredients, a little digging can go a long way.
....rejoicing in the fullness thereof....

^ That skillet full of good stuff brought back fond memories of ch1ldhood. Some of the best stuff mom made was leftover soup, goulash or whatever. So much can be done when it's cooked on bacon grease also. Mom hated throwing away anything since she had experienced hunger in the Dust Bowl days of West Texas back in the 30's so, unfortunately for me, I'm a plate cleaner since I could not get off the table until EVERYTHING was gone. Everybody knows the purpose of bread is to make sure no gravy, sauce or anything is left behind on the plate. Unlike her who stayed skinny, I got fat.  :(

Left over fried chicken, chicken-flavored rice, green beans, pineapple and New York vanilla ice cream with chocolate fudge.

I normally wouldn't post in this thread, since I prefer very basic & simple meals.  I've been recently diagnosed with diverticulitis, an infection of the lower intestine.  Though not proven, its possible it's caused by my liking of nuts, granola bars, candy bars with nuts, chunky peanut butter, popcorn, etc.

They've got me on a second round antibiotics.  Life just got a little less interesting when it comes to eating.   :'(

This is what I'll be having for dinner several hours from now: a flat-cut brisket marinated in homemade teriyaki sauce with red onions (which I'll serve over rice with grilled veggies and cold beer). Thus far, it's only been quickly browned in a very hot pan (my place is still smoky). :)
