The first "small" Cadillac was introduced in 1975 as a 1976 model to compete with the newly popular European, mostly German, cars that due to high gas prices and better economy became more popular, the 1976 Cadillac Seville. In those days, GM car divisions had their own engines, and the Seville was the first Cadillac that used another division's engine, in this case Oldsmobile, since in those days, Cadillac engines were huge, like 500 cubic inches or 8.2 liters and 472 cubic inches or 7.9 liters for the small one. The Seville would be considered a huge sedan nowadays but not then. The Seville was produced until 2004 and consisted of five generations and was replaced by the STS model.
