The Cards are off to a much better start than I expected. Now we'll just see how long they can last.

You really have to wait until May for things to shake out.

At least they're not the (formerly Devil) Rays.

Rays deserve scorn for wussing out on their team name.  The only thing that made them sound fierce was their name, but they caved to the bible thumpers.

One of the funniest things about baseball season in Seattle is one of the TV sportscasters, who is a hopeless Mariners fan. Last night he told us that the Mariners are "only a game behind the Angels", which is code for: "The Mariners are in third place in a four-team division."

I doubt the Yankees will make the playoffs this year. Their pitching is highly suspect, and the Yankees of the late 1990's would never have been bothered by a buried jersey.

And to make a player change his uniform number even though no one was using it and it wasn't retired... tsk tsk...

I think you're right for a few reasons, though mainly the Skankees' pitching is weak, weak, weak.  Their top two prospects have been crap so far -- Ian Kennedy 0-2, 9.64, Phil Hughes 0-3, 8.82.  And a veteran hasn't been much better -- Mike Mussina 1-3, 5.75.  Think it has less to do about a uniform and more about overhyping the new guys (even though they have talent) and overvaluing the old guys.

Meanwhile, Phils get to .500 again today....Not great, but they're without two starters for now, so we'll take it.  Plus Chase "MVP" Utley is rollin'.....5 straight games with a homer....And in 20 games he has 18 RBI, but that doesn't even lead his team thanks to Pat Burrell.

Yep, looks like another interesting year between the Mets and Phils, and the Braves are pretty good too.

Mets so far aren't hitting on all cylinders, and Pedro (again) is out for a while.  But Reyes is causing ulcers and leaving muddy cleatmarks in pitcher's heads again, and David Wright is hot.

Today was a bleak day in baseball.  Skankees and Mets won, Phils lost, though Chase "Neo" Utley hit another homer, had another hit, and walked.

Well as of today the Phils are 13-11, behind only the "wait till we decline" Marlins. Considering the previous 3 years of Phillies' Aprils and the fact that we're missing our shortstop and a major OF, I feel good about us moving forward. Oh yeah.

Randy Johnson also won today, for the first time since June of last year.  And the Skankees lost.  Always a blue ribbon day.

I'm liking the fact that the Cubs are off to their best start since 1975.  DLee has his power stroke back to go with his usual high batting average, and Fukodome is showing he's worth the investment too.  I think the biggest surprise so far, though, is how well Ryan Dempster is performing in the starting rotation after spending the last couple of years in the bullpen.  If the Cubs weren't (over)paying Ted Lilly to be the #2 I'd like to see him pushed into the pen in favour of Jon Leiber.

I like how Cubs fans are again excited.  It's like placing a filet mignon on the other side of an electronic fence.

It's starting to look like being a catcher for the Mets (or for the Yankees, for that manner) is almost as hazardous as being the drummer for Spinal Tap.
